White Tower
The White Tower stands in the heart of Tar Valon, a magnificent spire of Ogier architecture. Almost decimated after Tarmon Gai'don, the few remaining Aes Sedai were determined to raise the Tower back to its former glory. The ranks of the Tower are small, but growing. Accepting that saidin has in fact been cleansed, the White Tower has begun to admit male channellers into its ranks. The Tower holds an uneasy alliance with the Asha'man, who rejected a proposal to merge the two towers.
Having reclaimed the White Tower with her band of 'rebel' Aes Sedai, Egwene al'Vere claimed the Amyrlin Seat. Among the forefront at Tarmon Gai'don, she was killed, and Marchena Prazi was raised from the Blue Ajah. It was largely thanks to her that the Tower was restored to its former glory by 11ATG. It was Marchena Sedai also who proposed a union between the Aes Sedai and the Asha'man, for which she amazingly managed to gain support from all the Ajahs, and who made the decision to allow male Aes Sedai to join the White Tower. Perhaps most significant, however, was the decision to no longer require Aes Sedai to swear the Three Oaths on the Oath Rod. New sisters were not required to swear the Oaths, and those Aes Sedai who wished it could have their Oaths removed. Though they are no longer binding, however, Aes Sedai are still expected to live by the Oaths. Marchena Sedai died in 58ATG. Despite her proclamation, she did not have the Oaths removed, and was almost 300 when she died. Aiyana Ellisande was chosen in her place, raised from the White Ajah. She continued the work of her predecessor, encouraging the union between the Black Tower and the White, and officially condoning the practice of dual bonding between Aes Sedai and Asha'man. To this end, she chose as her Keeper one of the men of the White Ajah. In 100ATG, the White Tower joined with the Black Tower in sending a delegation to Cairhien to overwhelm a group of renengade Asha'man who had forcibly bonded a number of Aes Sedai and civilian women. Though the women were recovered, the Keeper of the Chronicles, Bryay Teribin, died in the attack, and was replaced by Aetha Deran. The current Amyrlin Seat is Aiyana Ellisande.
