Getting Started

How do I join?

Before you join, make sure you have read the information available on the main site, and important (pinned) threads on the forum. Once you have done that, register on the forum with your character name and PM an administrator your character biography. The biography template may be found here.

I've been approved. Now what?

Get to know some people post in the OOC boards and introduce yourselves. Request a roommate, if you want one. Post an IC introduction to your faction. Join or request a class, start an OTA thread, or post in the Discussion forum to find someone to roleplay with.

You will also need an avatar and signature. Avatars must be 110x170 pixels, and are required before you can be included on the character pages. Signatures must include a link to your biography.

General Roleplaying

How do classes work?

A more detailed guide to taking and teaching classes may be found here.

For each class, there will be an OOC thread detailing who may join, what the requirements are, and any other information. If there is anything you need to know not listed in the OOC thread, you should PM the teacher. For general questions about classes, you should contact your head of training.

I completed a raising requirement, so why isn’t it listed on the progress page?

If you have completed a class, and your credit has not yet been listed on the progress page, chances are that a) credits have not yet been posted by the teacher, or b) I haven’t got around to it yet. If you think it’s b), and it’s been more than a week since your credit was completed, send me a PM to check I haven’t forgotten.

If you completed a requirement other than a class, you need to let me know so that I can give you credit. Individual training, social RP threads and social threads completed for class credit, chores and punishments, block breaking threads, and MRPs all require you to PM the Amyrlin Seat with a link to the thread once they have been completed.

I want my character to be raised. What do I do?

First, make sure you’ve read through the detailed raising requirements here. If you have completed the requirements to be raised (you can check your progress toward raising here), PM the head of your faction. They will give permission for you to begin your own raising thread; make sure you read through others’ raisings and the information here and format yours appropriately.

How do I become a Darkfriend?

To join the Shadow, you can PM the Nae’blis at any stage in your character’s development. You will gain access to the Shadow plotting forum, and be put in touch with characters from your faction who will help RP your conversion to the Shadow. Characters – particularly first rank characters – usually do not start out as Darkfriends.

How do I apply for a position?

In general, to be awarded a higher position within the site (eg. Sitter of Ajah) you must have a character already at the appropriate rank (in this case, Aes Sedai). In rare cases, positions will become available automatically, allowing you to create a higher-level character from scratch.

If you would like your character to be awarded a position, you should contact the Amyrlin Seat or the head of your faction. You do not have to wait until your character has been fully raised to contact us; we are happy to hear of your plans for your character at any stage in their development. If you are officially applying for the position, there is no set format you must follow, but you should include as much detail as possible about your character, and about how you envisage them filling the position.

Most positions on the site are IC only. IC rank does not automatically equal OOC rank, and moderators will be appointed only as necessary and as we see fit.

How do I create an NPC or NRC?

You create an NPC or NRC the same way you would any other character – by registering an account on the forum, and sending the character biography to an administrator. NPCs and NRCs may be created at a level no higher than that of your highest-ranked character, but do not have to be in the same faction; if you have an Aes Sedai character, you may create an Asha’man NRC. For NPC and NRC biographies, a history is optional.

Once an NPC has been created, anyone may use him or her. To do so, PM the creator of the NPC (listed on the character biography). When creating an NPC account, the password must be “password.”

I really like my NRC. Can I make them into a regular character?

Yes! To do so, you must complete a set of requirements, including completing retrospective raising threads up to the character’s current level. Once an NRC has been made “real,” they may join classes, be raised, and function as any other character. If you are interested in making your NRC “real,” contact an administrator for more detailed requirements, NPCs, as shared characters, cannot be made “real.”

My character broke the rules. Do they have to be caught/punished?

It depends on the severity of the infraction, and the circumstances surrounding it, but in general, yes. If your character has broken a rule, you must let a moderator or administrator know. If you do not want your character to be caught, you can let us know, and we’ll take it into consideration, but remember that the punishment can often be as fun, or rewarding, as the rule-breaking itself.

Can my character switch between factions?

Of course! This can be a fun way of developing your character in an unusual way, or of including something in your character’s backstory that would not otherwise be allowed. If you want your character to change factions, you should let an administrator know as soon as possible; whether that’s been your plan from the beginning, or it simply occurred to you on a whim. In most cases, character changing factions will have to begin again at the lowest level, however, you may be given credit for classes and RPs completed in your former faction.

How long will it take my character to be raised?

OOC, it will take only as long as you wish, and as long as it takes you to complete all necessary requirements.

IC, it generally takes around ten years to be raised from Novice to Accepted, and the same again from Accepted to Aes Sedai.

Raising from Trainee to Youngling generally takes between two and five years, and the same from Youngling to Gaidin.

Raising from Soldier to Dedicated generally takes between six months and three years, and the same from Dedicated to Asha’man.

IC raising times in other factions are unspecified.
