The rank of Aes Sedai, which means Servant of All in the Old Tongue, is one dating back two Ages, to the Age of Legends. With the taint on
saidin now cleansed, both men and women now serve side by side as Aes Sedai once more. Aes Sedai are divided into seven Ajahs - Blue, Brown, Green, Grey, Red, White and Yellow - and are ruled by the Amyrlin Seat, one man or woman said to be of all Ajahs, and of none.
Once Accepted have completed their final test, they are given a night of contemplation on what it means to be an Aes Sedai, at which time they must make their final decision about which Ajah to join. Both men and women may join any Ajah except the Red, which restricts its numbers to women.
Blue Ajah
The Blue Ajah is dedicated to justice and causes. Blue Sisters rarely remain in the Tower, preferring to seek out their causes within the outside world. The Blue Ajah most often sends its sisters to train among the Aiel Wise Ones and the Atha'an Miere Windfinders. The Blue Ajah is perhaps the most political of all the Ajahs, maintaining a vast network of eyes and ears. The Blues are ambitious and influential, skilled at manipulation and at the Cairhienin Daes Dae'mar.
Brown Ajah
The Brown Ajah is concerned with knowledge. Rarely straying outside the Tower, they are most often found in the library, more concerned with studying obscure tracts than with the matters of the outside world. Often accused of being aloof and oblivious to what is happening around them, the Brown Ajah places more importance on digging up long-forgotten histories than on current events.
Green Ajah
The Green Ajah is the battle Ajah. It was they who fought the most determinedly at Tarmon Gai'don, and maintain their traditions in preparation against the lingering forces of the dark. The only Ajah to bond more than one Warder, the Greens are also most likely to bond Asha'man. Like the Blue Ajah, Green Sisters are unlikely to remain in the Tower for long, as many dedicate themselves to seeking out and destroying any remaining creatures of the Shadow. The Green Ajah is perhaps the only Ajah wholly convinced that some of the Forsaken remain alive, and is dedicated to seeing that they are found and defeated.
Grey Ajah
The Grey Ajah are the mediators of the White Tower, Calm and rational, they are most often advisors to the rulers of nations. They are also responsible for agreements with the Aiel, Atha'an Miere, Asha'man and even the Children of the Light. The Grey Ajah is dedicated to ending disputes and promoting peace within the land. Rarely remaining in the Tower, they must be skilled in adapting to any kind of society or situation.
Red Ajah
Since the cleansing of saidin and the alliance with the Black Tower, the Red Ajah no longer hunt down and gentle male channellers. While they remain distrustful of the Asha'man, they now devote themselves instead to increasing the ranks of the White Tower. Many members of the Red Ajah have also begun studying objects of the One Power in greater depth.
White Ajah
Cool and dispassionate, the White Ajah is often thought to be the epitome of the way in which Aes Sedai are perceived. Devoted to the pursuit of logic, sisters of the White Ajah often remain in the Tower, as they have no need to leave it. Though every Ajah maintains a network of eyes and ears, that of the White Ajah is by far the least extensive.
Yellow Ajah
The Yellow Ajah are the healers of the White Tower. Heavily relied upon during Tarmon Gai'don, the Yellow Ajah is devoted to healing, determined to be able to heal anything short of death. Indeed, with the new from of healing recently rediscovered, dating back to the Age of Legends, this is in fact possible. Some Yellows are even capable of Healing those severed from the One Power. Sisters of the Yellow Ajah may often be found both outside and within the White Tower, running the Tower infirmary as well as assisting those injured in battle or otherwise.
